April Newsletter

"Building difference makers for Christ, through soccer, for the next generation of African talent."

April has been another amazing month for MUNGU ACADEMY. Our children are enjoying playing in the nationwide league, serving the community, and growing into the next generation of leaders in Uganda. Making sure our MUNGU boys learn about the importance of becoming servant leaders is important to us. As most of you know, our mission is to give our players opportunities to play soccer at the next level in both university and professional settings. By helping them achieve this it will enable them to share Christ's love in the world.

This mission starts with each child at a young age. Many of our children come from fatherless homes, don’t live with their parents, or are dependent on MUNGU for their daily food and basic needs. MUNGU is here to show them love, give them community, meet their needs, as well as disciple them as they grow in relationship with God. We believe these components are necessary to raise up a powerful and loving generation of African men!

YOUR SUPPORT IS CHANGING LIVES!

It is absolutely amazing watching the lives of our children and their families grow and change for the better, both on and off the field. In our current Nation wide league, MUNGU has won 3 games this month, bringing our team up to 6th place in the league with only 1 more game to play. While our team is still young, many scouts and Ugandan soccer representatives have remarked about the well-roundedness of our team. We have also been recognized as the team with the best “Fair-Play”. We are encouraged to see our MUNGU values represented by our players.

This months MUNGU outreach was two different service projects! The first was in the community hospital of Nakiwogo, Uganda. We went into the hospital to see what the major needs were and blessed the staff there with food and water, as well as deep cleaning a major ward of the hospital. Our second project of the day involved our team going to the local market by our soccer field and cleaning up for all the vendors who were there that day. Many different community leaders came out and praised MUNGU for the work they were doing and said it is clear MUNGU is a “team devoted to serving the Lord”.

MEET LYNNEA BUSSEY, Social Media Manager!

We are delighted to announce that Lynnea Bussey has joined our team at MUNGU as the Social Media Manager. Lynnea grew up as a missionary kid in Kenya and later, Germany. She has a major in Fine Art from Houghton College and is excited to use her gifting to impact the lives of the MUNGU family. Her and her husband Andrew hope to be living back in East Africa in the future.

CONTINUING NEEDS

MUNGU FACILITY BUILDING

As we grow as a team and family, we are looking to build a facility for ourselves. This facility would not only house staff and players, but also include a field to train. We have been praying to have this project started within 2023, however, we still need financial support to get this done. Here is what we still need:
- Funds for the purchase of a turf field.
- Funds to build a team office and Headquarters.

If you are interested in becoming a team sponsor and helping out in any way, please email us at
mungufc@gmail.com or give us a call at (714) 322 4015.

GET YOUR NAME ON OUR NEXT JERSEY!

For all of our child and corporate sponsors, you can now write off all of your donations as a tax deductible. If you, as an individual or a business representative, are looking to increase your Corporate Social Responsibility or International Presence, reach out to our team at mungufc@gmail.com and see how you can become a sponsor for MUNGU.

Join our Sponsorship Program for only $34/month and create a real relationship with one child who needs your help.

- Tuition for education.
- Food, quality housing, clothing.
- Soccer equipment and gear.
- Safety and community.

We want this to be more than just you sponsoring a child, but rather a relationship. You will receive pictures of your child and their family as well as them in action on the field, as well as personal letters and notes about how much your help goes in their lives.

We are still seeking 19 more sponsors so that all the boys are covered for their school expenses, which will allow us to use the other one time donations towards other expenses and essentials. In terms of big needs moving forwards - please pray that we can find a school that can partner with us in Entebbe that would allow all our boys to go to the same place. Along with this we are seeking a place that can become a residence for the boys. Here our boys can live in one place closer to their families and in a setting where they can grow spiritually, educationally and soccer wise.
